Sustainability

Ceramic’s aesthetic properties and technical features make it a sustainable material of extraordinary value.  Saloni’s ceramic products contribute to the comfort and quality of the habitat due to their low energy consumption, low contamination level, minimum maintenance, and better waste behaviour.
Saloni holds the international certification ISO 14001 which establishes the requirements to implement, develop and maintain a management system to control the environmental impact of its production processes, with an approach based on continual improvement. By adopting ISO 14001 as an environmental management tool, Saloni undertakes, among other things, to fulfil the commitments established in its policy and to improve its relationship with environmental authorities and the community.
Saloni has had Integrated Environmental Authorisation (AAI) since 2005, which aims to prevent, reduce and control air, water and land pollution through the implementation of an integrated pollution prevention and control system to obtain a higher level of environmental protection.  Saloni is an Authorised Non-Hazardous Waste Management Company (No. 015/AAI/CV). All wastewater generated in the ceramic tile production process is recovered. Saloni is a company with zero liquid discharge of industrial wastewater.  Also, any ceramic tiles that are removed from the production process before the firing phase are recycled.
In addition, Saloni is incorporated into ECOEMBALAJES ESPAÑA S.A. (ECOEMBES), an organisation that cares for the environment through the recycling and eco-design of packaging in Spain. We are also involved in PEP: Business Plan for the Prevention of Packaging and Packaging Waste.
As part of its environmental commitment, Saloni has certified its compliance with the standard UNE-EN-ISO 14021 (Environmental Self-Declaration for Type II Products) for the recycled content in its internally manufactured products in groups BIa (porcelain) and BIII (white-body), with a recycling rate of 25% and 45% respectively in each group.  These self-declarations have been verified by Bureau Veritas to enhance the company’s credibility and, in turn, to build consumer trust.
Developing our active environmental policy has enabled us to obtain the EPD ecolabel for our range of ceramic products in groups BIa, BIIa and BIII.  The EPD is a certified environmental declaration that communicates transparent and comparable information about the environmental impact throughout the product lifecycle, in accordance with the international standard UNE-EN-ISO 14025 (Type III Environmental Declarations).  Saloni’s EPDs are registered under the management of the International EPD System Programme – Environdec.
In addition, Saloni owns the environmental declaration FDES (Fiche de Déclaration Environnementale et Sanitaire) regulated by the AFNOR NF EN 15804+A1 standard. A FDES is a verified document that shows the results of a product’s life cycle analysis as well as health information, used to calculate the environmental and health performance of an eco-design building.
